In a new episode of Espacio Shopify, we spoke with Eugenia Alonso, Head of eCommerce at Home Collection, about the migration process from Magento to Shopify and how this change transformed the company's digital operations.
With over 35 years of experience and 11 physical stores in Buenos Aires, Home Collection views eCommerce as a strategic channel to reach customers nationwide. However, the platform they were using had begun to limit business growth, causing problems with the shopping experience and increasingly complex operations.
When the platform no longer supports growth
One of the most interesting concepts Eugenia shares during the interview is that many companies end up normalizing their platform's problems.
Failed checkouts, customers unable to complete a purchase, limitations in managing content or commercial campaigns, and time spent resolving incidents begin to become part of the daily routine.
As she summarizes during the episode:
"When you're putting out fires, you don't have the energy for other things. For growing, for making your customer happy."
A migration that was much more than just changing platforms
The decision to migrate to Shopify involved evaluating different alternatives, working internally to build consensus, and leveraging the project to streamline processes and review operations.
Beyond the technological change, Home Collection found a platform prepared to support business growth and give the team greater autonomy.
According to Eugenia:
"Shopify gave us incredible peace of mind and allowed us to stop putting out fires and focus on other things."
A simpler operation, ready for growth
During the chat, she also shares how the preparation for events like Hot Sale and Cyber Monday changed, moving from complex and manual processes to much more agile and flexible management.
Furthermore, she highlights the use of Shopify Sidekick, the artificial intelligence integrated into Shopify, to query sales, analyze categories, and obtain business information in seconds, streamlining decision-making.
The next challenge
After the migration, Home Collection continues to work on the evolution of its eCommerce with LOP, with new objectives such as continuing to grow in the interior of the country, strengthening its international operations, and developing the B2B channel on Shopify.
For Eugenia, the main lesson is that a migration represents an opportunity to streamline processes, improve operations, and prepare the business for a new stage of growth.
