Shopify Editions is where, twice a year, Shopify shows off all the improvements from the last 6 months to their products and reveals them in a demo along with the new features.
With more than 100 new updates, during the presentation of the “Summer 2023” edition, Glen Coates (VP of Product at Shopify) revealed the news that excites him most. Some are exclusive to Shopify Plus, but virtually all are available to all users.
New design and user experience in Shopify admin
Shopify gave the admin an improved visual design, with a new look, fonts and spacing that optimize interactivity and make data clearer.
To have a better user experience using the administrator, Shopify also improved performance, generating faster loading of the sections. An example is the massive product editor, in which - even having thousands of variants - loading is very fast.
Global search on Shopify has also been optimized to be faster. Now, simply searching for a contact, we can see different results related to the person we are looking for, organized with quick filter buttons. In this way, the most important information about an order is revealed to us without having to access the order section.
Shopify Bundles
The new Shopify Bundles application allows you to create product combos with up to 250 variants, giving the possibility of increasing the store's average ticket.
Shopify Bundles does not create virtual products but rather synchronizes the inventory of the products that make up the bundle in real time, avoiding product overselling and thus being able to offer a better shopping experience.
Shopify Subscriptions
Another way to sell more and increase the store's income is to sell subscriptions so that customers can receive, on a regular basis, the products they consume regularly.
With the new Shopify Subscriptions application you can create plans so that certain products are delivered regularly every few weeks, with the possibility of offering a discount to those who subscribe to the plan.
From a widget generated by the same application, and in a very simple and fast way, you can view on the product page the possibility of selecting some of the subscription plans generated for the chosen items.
Shopify Marketplace Connect
The new Shopify Marketplace Connect application allows you to connect the Shopify catalog with the main marketplaces in the world, such as Amazon, Walmart or eBay, and be able to centralize and manage products, orders and inventories in one place. Until now, this was only possible from multiple platforms, which was much more time-consuming.
The application allows you to modify the price or description depending on the marketplace where the product is enabled and keep inventories updated in real time. Once the product is sold, orders will be imported automatically, allowing complete management in Shopify.
Volume pricing in B2B
In the latest editions of Shopify Edition Summer, B2B has been improving. In the current year's edition, Shopify introduced the ability to set volume pricing for products and be able to offer massive discounts on wholesale sales.
This functionality, which is only available for Shopify Plus stores, allows you to establish - in products from different catalogs - breaks based on different quantities and establish a particular price for each one.
Versions for specific pages
From now on, by customizing the Shopify theme, we will be able to create specific versions of a page. Like, for example, the product page for B2B customers. We will also be able to add or hide sections, which will allow greater optimization for wholesale clients.
This new Shopify functionality not only allows you to create versions for B2B customer pages but also for the different international markets where the online store sells.
Shopify Inbox
Shopify Inbox is a tool integrated with the store to interact with customers in real time. Although the application has been running for some time, the possibility of quickly answering chat queries with answers generated by Shopify Magic's artificial intelligence is added as a novelty.
Shopify Magic suggests instant answers to frequently asked questions in chat and generates text with store information, which can be edited or not, and turned into an instant answer in chat.
Shopify Inbox not only generates instant answers to frequently asked questions but also - thanks to Shopify Magic - generates answers with artificial intelligence for queries other than those created as frequently asked questions. With a single click, a response can be sent to a potential customer in just a few seconds.
Shopify checkout
A study by the three largest global consulting firms shows that Shopify's global conversion rate exceeds that of other platforms by an average of 15%, reaching - in some cases - 36%. That makes Shopify checkout one of the best.
Now, as a novelty, the Shopify checkout is optimized all on a single page and this generates a better user experience.
The new checkout works perfectly with Checkout Extensibility, which allows you to use apps - public or custom - to customize the function.
With 17 new APIs and updates, it is possible to create applications and customize the theme's checkout and give it new functionalities to help the customer complete their purchase.
Flex sections
Flex sections is one of the new features that will be available soon and that allows you to customize sections from the online theme editor, adding blocks to others already created within each section and editing its size, duplicating it, changing the order, alignment and even modifying the button layout.
Sidekick
Sidekick is the new artificial intelligence commerce assistant created by Shopify that Tobi Lütke (CEO and founder of Shopify) introduced via Twitter. It will allow, with Shopify's own data, to make queries and obtain answers or instructions that help make better business decisions and carry out operational tasks in less time.
With Sidekick we can tell you to create a promotion with a specific discount on a certain date range and with some products. This will cause Sidekick to automatically create the promotion, saving you important time.
Sidekick will also be available in the theme editor, and will allow you to indicate that we want to see the online store with a different visual appearance. In a few seconds, Sidekick will offer suggestions for changes to the desired design.
