As indicated by the Argentine Chamber of Electronic Commerce, eCommerce in our country grew by 84% during April compared to an average month in the first quarter.
This data reflects that the importance of having your own online store is increasingly decisive if you are looking for global development, especially in the number of sales of the company's products.
The study, carried out by Kantar for the CACE, indicates that the increase occurred exponentially as of April 20, when retail sales were enabled in all items. Since that date, billing grew 111%, with 87% in unit sales and 54% in purchase orders compared to an average fortnight in the first quarter of 2020.
The country's situation in the face of Covid-19 clearly had an impact on this, since 4 out of 10 purchase orders from stores came from new customers. This can have an influence both in the short and long term; If the person had a good experience in the purchase of the product, it is possible that they decide to continue buying in this way without having to go to the store physically.
The increase in April deepened especially in companies that sell essential goods and that never interrupted their operations. In those cases, revenue growth was 149% on average, with a 103% increase in purchase orders and 182% in products sold.
Likewise, in the face of social and preventive isolation, Argentines turned to the purchase of essential goods, which produced a growth of 10 points in April in companies that sell essential products.
Electronic and apparel products
The number that grew the most was regarding the sale of electronic products, with 272% average billing (306% since April 20, when retail sales were enabled in all items). Purchase orders increased by 216% and the purchase of units by 225%.
On the other hand, clothing managed to overcome a temporary drop of 17%, due to the fact that people stopped buying clothes due to social isolation, and closed with a 10% increase in billing. After April 20, billing increased to 37%.
This expansion of eCommerce during the month of April showed an acceleration in the trend of the first quarter of 2020, where the growth in billing and purchase orders was in line with what was observed in 2019.
People, perhaps some reluctant to make purchases online, discovered a new world. This does not mean that companies have to abandon their physical premises, but rather that the ideal would be to complement it with eCommerce for a global development of the company.
